1942-2009 / painter
Gayane became interested in painting at an early age. She studied formally and prepared to enter the Tbilisi Art Academy but ultimately did not do so at the recommendation of famous artist Aleskandre Bazhbeuk-Melikov, who did not want her to lose her "original vision". Gayane would often show her works to another famous painter, Elene Akhvlediani, and received feedback. She was especially close friends with the avant garde artist Sergey Parajanov, who loved her work and promoted it.
Gayane took part in many group exhibitions and staged personal exhibitions in Tbilisi, Moscow and Yerevan. After her death, some of her works were exhibited at the 53rd International Biennale in Venice.
She also wrote poems in Russian which give insight into her visual artwork.
